HiveDrive HUB
Installation and Configuration guide
Hi! Thanks for choosing HiveDrive. If you want to set up your private or hybrid cloud with HiveDrive, this is your guide to succeed. HiveDrive HUB is an additional free tool that will help you facilitate disjointed workflow and will give you access to features like:
- Accelerator
- Backup
- Project Management (for Planner, Professional and Enterprise version only)
- Browser Access (for Planner, Professional and Enterprise version only)
Prerequisite
HiveDrive HUB can not be installed in one of the PC where you are willing to install and work with HiveDrive Client. You can install HiveDrive HUB in any other PC in your network or a server, the only requirement is that this machine should always be connected to the internet.
Download HiveDrive HUB .exe file
HiveDrive HUB has a dedicated setup file, to obtain it procede with the following steps:
- enter https://my.silentwave.eu/en/ with your SilentWave account credentials
- go to the Products and Services tab
- open HiveDrive product expander
- download the .exe file under the section: Download / Additional HUB functionalities (optional)
Now you can install your HiveDrive HUB.
HiveDrive HUB Installation
The setup procedure is made by command line, you will have to chose different configuration:
- LocalDB or MSSQL Server
- LocalDB is a simple database managed by HiveDrive HUB process, choosing LocalDB no more database configuration will be required.
- MSSQL Server is the complete installation of the Microsoft Database Engine, HiveDrive will accept any edition starting from Express (free with limitations)
Selecting MSSQL Server let you choose where every project database will be created:
- Standard database path based on MSSQL server Instance
- HiveDrive paths under C:\ProgramData\SilentWave\HiveDriveHUB\Release{subfolders}
- Https port used by the Web Server to give access to HiveDrive HUB functionalities like:
- settings
- dashboard
- project management
- web file access
Setup will end gracefully or with a reboot request. Reboot is mandatory if required at the end of installation.
After installation
After the first installation some steps are required, first open a broswer on the machine where HiveDrive HUB is installed and browse the adress: https://localhost (if you choose different port during installation than 443 for the web management access or you want to configure HiveDrive HUB from a different computer you have to broser https://:) First of all you are required to login with your personal credential. After that the configuration will start asking for an HiveDrive HUB Account.
Updating HiveDrive HUB
To update HiveDrive HUB to the latest available version, simply download the new .exe file from the my.silentwave.eu portal by logging in with your credentials. In the Products and Services section, open the HiveDrive panel and download the updated file from the Download / Additional HUB Features area. Once the file is obtained, run the installation procedure again via command line, as described above. The installer will automatically detect the existing version and proceed with the update, preserving previous configurations. At the end of the process, a system restart may be required to complete the update.
HiveDrive HUB Account
Each HiveDrive HUB must have a dedicated account that can be created on: https://gateway.hivedrive.eu You must choose which Company, of which you are Administrator, to connect the HUB to. This connection cannot later be changed. Once you have chosen the Company specify a name for the HUB. Choosing a recognizable name is IMPORTANT as the HUB name will be displayed by users giving a clear and unambiguous indication of the connection especially in a multi-HUB scenario.
Select and open the right network ports
HiveDrive's p2p communication is based on TCP protocol and defaults to ports 45654 and 45655. The port configuration can be changed on the settings page. It is also possible to specify a public IP and public ports in case HiveDrive HUB is placed behind a Reverse Proxy Setup and changes on the settings page in HiveDrive HUB automatically handles the opening of Windows Defender Firewall ports. Instead, you must manually configure other software or hardware Firewalls to allow communication on the default or configured ports.
Multi HUB Scenario.
With Planner/Professional/Enterprise licenses you are free to install and configure as many HUBs as you want. The purpose of having more than one HUB can serve to:
- divide workloads across different machines to isolate users or behaviors
- to design predetermined network paths for the purpose of improving performance. Of course, the combination of these choices is allowed and encouraged. If you have concerns about how best to configure your infrastructure, contact us via https://support.silentwave.eu
Dividing roles on different machines
Some examples of dividing workloads across different HiveDrive HUBs might be:
- Dedicate one HiveDrive HUB to the Backup function, possibly isolated from the network perspective from any external connections by creating a secure point.
- Install a HiveDrive HUB with only the Web File Access role in a DMZ network to provide access to only certain projects by personnel outside the company.
Improve network performance
When the company has more than one operational location, a HiveDrive HUB can be installed at each location so that users at one location preferentially connect to its HUB, optimizing traffic between locations.
